But to Petra, every rock (and mineral - she knows the difference) is special: its name, where it comes from, the piece of the Earth’s story that it conveys. Petra’s rock collection is threatening to overwhelm the house. The alluring illustrations are full of voice and expression. This tale is inspired by the Polish-Ukrainian folk artist and muralist Wilhelm Kotarbinski, whose works tell us “don’t be afraid to see the world around you differently than others see it.” Our Wilhelm is a hedgehog grappling with the usual hedgehog concerns of food and shelter, but he also wonders: “Where does shadow begin? Where does the darkness disappear in the morning? And, most importantly, what does light begin with?” In a gentle collaboration, his friends - a crow, a squirrel, a trio of pigeons - attempt to solve his dilemma.
